I thought the blog was a constructive way to communicate with each other to get ideas and helpful location to see examples of tiny houses. helped in the process in making the tiny house because you get more than one opinion on what may help the design of your tiny house.

Review of Project

As a final post on the blog, each student must make a comment about how they felt using the blog as a tool with the project worked out.  This comment should be constructive as to using the concept of a blog as part of a class assignment.  I look forward to seeing how you felt the blog worked out and if you would recommend a blog as part of a class assignment in the future.

Kayla's Tiny House Updated

I took everyone's advice and added a eating area in the top left corner and then a small corner shelf for a little bit of storage.

Access to a second floor

If you are creating a second floor, make sure you have enough space to get from the first floor to the second.  When I look at the floor, I see a space of at least three feet wide and 2.5 feet deep.  Make sure you have at least that much space for getting up and down.

The top image is my first floor while the bottom is second floor. Does anyone have any suggestion on what I should do with the empty space on the left of the first floor? I was thinking storage, maybe?

Some of you are getting the idea of the blog!

Some of you are really getting into the idea of the blog.  You are posting information you have found for others in the class to read.  This makes for a more informed class, and therefore better final projects.  In addition, some are taking the time to see what the other members of the class have found, read the information and made comments or suggestions.  That is great.

While I don't expect great works of literature,  I do hope your comments continue to be two or three sentences.  I like it when you put some thought into what you post, and not post for the sake of how many posts you can accumulate.

And I hope you are having fun as you work on this project.

Chris Baker's Tiny House Scetch

This is the basic house design I thought of over the weekend and on monday; I originaly wanted a spiral staircase but I could not find one that would work. I also am design this house with an overhang. It may have two beds upstairs if the couple/family have children.

Assignment for Thursday, February 17, 2011

For February 17, 2011, you must place on the blog the first sketch you create for your tiny house.  This example of you tiny house design can be worked up using the Revit software of just a sketch you do by hand.  If you do a hand sketch, I will be happy to scan it and convert your sketch to a jpeg so that you can up up load your design.

Then on Thursday and Friday, each student must look at each of the other student's designs.  You may make a comment concerning the design, but each student must at least leave their name as a comment so that I know you have been to each of the other students's tiny house design.

My plan it to spend time on Friday working on each student's design, weekend for tweeking and all printing to be done on Monday.  I will publish the final printing requirements on Friday so that students can set up their printing a head of time.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have as comments in this post.

tiny house design

Here is a website that i have found that will help you make a tiny house. http://www.tinyhousedesign.com/category/free-house-plans/ it shows you what you need in your house.

Tiny House Website

Here is some helpful information on tiny houses at this website:
http://tinyhouseblog.com/tag/canada/

96-square foot house

http://www.propertyinvestmentproject.co.uk/blog/smallest-house-in-the-world/
This house was built by Jay Shafer. He plans space for small houses ranging from 50 square feet to 500 square feet in size.
at http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/tiny_houses.html I saw some very unique tiny houses

nice website

This website has lots of plans if you need help.

tinyhouseblog.com/timber-frame/timberlast-smart-kits/

Here a website

That shows all the types of tiny houses

http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/tiny_houses.html
at http://tinyhouseblog.com/ i found some incredibly small houses that were supposed to be very cost effective to live in

100-Square foot house

I have NEVER in my life seen a house that took up only 100 square feet of space. Well, on this site you do. http://www.americanprofile.com/article/20947.html

Tiny house

From this site www.squido.com/tiny-houses-small-homes-greenliving that a tiny house has just as much room as a RV does. If you were to maximize your living space you could build a bath room seperate that way you could have your own little private space. tiny houses are perfect for single person living and eco friendly people , most tiny houes have wheels on them for easy moveability, tiny houses can also be eco friendly because you need less material to build the house.
I also found another website http://www.tinytexashouses.com/ that all of there tiny houses were made from salvaged material

Yet ANOTHER website

This website, http://www.countryplans.com/ is a good website to use. I have found a few houses I like within the website, although some might not use it.

The log cabins of the new day

Tiny houses are an ultra energy effcient way to "get away" for the weekend. I think tiny house are not residential homes, but they are houses that are used to spend a weekend in the forest. It allows people to connect with nature while having a secure shelter. So they can cook over the fire in the evening and sleep in a comfortable bed at night.
There is a website called "Tiny Green Cabins" that would make great examples of small, Earth-friendly houses. At least, I found it useful.

tiny house info

I've found a site that gives you free plans to make a tiny home and it could gives you a general idea of what you might want your tiny house to look like. The site is www.tinyhousedesign.com/
http://www.tinygreencabins.com/ this was a site that I have found useful. It has some interesting plans for small houses, as well as plans for houses which are ecofriendly.
I found on http://www.tinygreencabins.com/ some tiny houses/cabins that are supposed to be environmentally friendly because almost everything in the house is created from recycled/biodegrade materials
some of the designs that I have seen for tiny houses included solar panels and some designs were mobile versions of certain styles of houses

http://www.tinyhousedesign.com/ and http://tinyhouses.org/

Creative Ideas for Your Tiny Home

I have found a website that has examples of different types of 'tiny homes' such as a box home, tree houses, single hauz, ext. Some of the following homes are found in unusual locations:over water, in trees, small places in cities, ext.

I would use this website just to get creative ideas!

Here is the website: http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/tiny_houses.html

Tiny Houses

http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com . This web site I thought was useful when it came to planning a tiny house. The house has to be built to fit the people that are going to be living in it. The house should be built to meet the climate conditions and the house has a limit on things that can go into it. To find out more click on the link and read on.

If you look on the website, http://dornob.com/mini-luxury-living-10-small-homes-built-on-tiny-islands/, that website has some nice designs for small houses.

Web found for project

Here is a website I've found, http://www.tinypallethouse.com/. I believe this website is important because it talks about houses that are built for the homeless. The best things about these houses is they cost less than 1500$ to build. The houses in this web say " As tent cities continue to grow accross America maybe it would make sense for local governments to allow tiny house communities like these to solve the immediate need for affordable housing". I feel like this is the best way to help out the people who lost their jobs due to the economy.

I found a website for the project

I found a website, www.iddictive.com/2009/03/24/driving-the-tiny-house-movement/. I found it important, because it shows that the families that build these houses are looking for a way to save the environment or the money in their wallets. I think that we should work that into our plan and include more plentiful in the location they are in. I also feel that we should not include anything custom included in the houses, such as casework of irregular proportions. I also see that the houses are on wheels causing easy movement and little need to figure location and if they are not on wheels, then they would not need much space for the foundation.

A website I have found that has some ideas for house plans

http://tinyhouseblog.com/plans/

tiny house blog

A Tiny house is a house that is made from your wants. you build the house to fit you and what you want. it started from kids who's parents wouldn't let them build things so they went into the woods and started to build there wants.

Monday, February 14, 2011 Assignment

For today's assignment, due by 8:00 AM Tuesday, I want you to find some information about tiny houses and post the information on our blog.  You should tell the rest of our members what you have found out and of course where you found it; include the URL either typed out or as a link.  We as a class will look at the links on Tuesday, discuss what we have found out and how it will work into our project.

Introduction to Tiny House Project

Want to try something different for this project, which is an “off the wall” project as it is.

There is a movement for people to make as small a footprint on the earth as possible.  This includes the structure where they live.  The movement is called “Tiny Houses” of “Tiny Cabins,” sometimes adding green to the name.  Your assignment is to design a living structure for two people that can not have more than a twelve foot by twelve foot footprint and no taller than twenty feet.

There is lots of information available on the internet about the tiny houses, feel free to use any source you find to assist you in the design of your tiny house.  That is the first part of the project.

The second part of the project is to share the information you find concerning the tiny houses with the other members of the class.  However, you may not talk to any student in the class.  I am in the process of setting up a blog for this assignment.  You will be required to make at least three posts to the blog of information you have located on the internet concerning tiny houses.  I hope that as you post to the blog, other students and I will make comments about your posting.

You are also required to post your floor plan to the blog so that students can make comments and suggestions about your design.

We will work the week of February 14 through February 21 on the project with all printing to be finished on the 21st.

Remember, there should be no communication other than the blog for this project.  If you have any questions, please post the questions and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Good luck and lets have fun!!!
