At first when I made my sketch of my tiny house, I made it a single story house with a living, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. I made the rooms really small but with enough room to still be able to live normally in. i made it just a regular rectangular houe. I had the living room connected with the kitchen for easy access.
After I revised my sketch, I took in to consideration to make the house two stories. In order to not take up space, I used a ladder instead of stairs to get to the second floor. i kept the living room and kitchen on the bottom floor and put the bedroom and bathroom on the top.

Tiny House Report
The
Tiny House concept is based around using the least amount of square footage to
live in as possible. As such, there is no need for the design to contain a “family”
area like a living room, or a television area. My house design contains a
kitchen, living area, and a bathroom. None of them take up that much space, the
total square footage of the house being roughly 227 sq. ft.
The
kitchen area contains a sink, range, a refrigerator, and a cabinet for food
storage. The work triangle of the kitchen is small but is still contained
within the same area, so that when you cook you do not have to move far for the
different appliances. It is floored with carpet, as is the living area and
entrance, as it is a part of the rest of the house and is cheaper to install
than hardwood. The living area has enough room for a queen sized bed and a
night stand for a lamp. There are also outlets next to the nightstand for phone
or laptop charging cords if they are needed – or for an alarm clock and a lamp.
The bathroom is small, but has all of the necessary features – a toilet, a
sink, and a tub / shower. The floor in the bathroom would be vinyl or tile for
obvious reasons.

Tiny house Report
The home was designed to be compact, efficient (as far as the layout), and have a small footprint.
To reduce the size of the home, hallways have been removed, and doorways have been converted into wall spaces (to create, uh, flow). The rest of the house is designed simply to use as much space as possible while having as little of a footprint as possible.
In essence, it is a no-frills, compact home designed to fit into small lots.

Tiny House
I designed a house that has 400 square feet, with 100 square
feet of porch. The house has a bedroom, living room, kitchen and a full bath.
To save space in the house I got a washer and dryer that is put together. When
you walk into the house you walk into the living room, I put the living room
there so you can relax when you walk in. The kitchen is in the back of the
house and has its own entry in the back of the house. Also in the kitchen I have
upper and lower cabinets, range, dishwasher, sink, and a refrigerator. In the
bathroom you will find a toilet, tub and a sink. The whole house has wood
flooring except for the bathroom (which has tile). On the exterior I have siding, and asphalt
shingles. To save energy cost this house has a lot of windows to let the
sunlight in and to regulate the houses temperature. This house was designed to
be small but comfortable at the same time.
I
designed my tiny house in such a way that it leaves a small footprint, has the
minimum amount of space I require to live in, provides a stable shelter, and
could be built on a trailer if needed. That would help, because I wouldn’t have
to worry about purchasing another house or building another house, and in most
states, it wouldn’t require a building permit to have it on the property
because it would be set on a trailer base and would be considered a mobile
vehicle attachment. My house includes a small kitchen area with a range, sink,
dishwasher, refrigerator, and cabinets (upper and lower). The desk in the
corner doubles as a work and eating area. The main area of the first room is a
living room/ lounge set up. The back room is the bathroom/utility room,
including all bathroom accessories and a washer (there is no dryer because I
can just as well string a clothesline outside to dry my clothes). A ladder
leads from the first to the second floor. Upstairs is the sleeping area with a
sitting area in it. The whole house has plenty of windows for natural heating
and lighting.

Tiny House Written Report
My
tiny house was design to be comfortable and not too big. The design has the
stove and refrigerator in the walls so that there was less space taken up in
the kitchenette area. There is a closet in the hall and another next to it for
the washer and dryer. The bathroom is the size of what you would expect in a
normal-sized home, just a little more compact, and has all of the necessary
appliances. The bedding area is big enough for a queen-sized bed.
The
house is long instead of square to make it look a little more like a normal
house. The roof is designed with asphalt shingles for a nice look and the
exterior walls are to have wood shingles to give the house an overall rustic
appearance. The floor is tile in the one closet in the home so that if the
washer breaks down or overflows, the water won’t seep into the wooden floors in
the rest of the house – and the same goes for the bathroom and the components
in there.
The kitchen is designed to hold food stocked for one person and the refrigerator is big enough for anything you need to throw in there to keep cold. The table is 36’ (3’) in diameter so that the room seems bigger than it actually is. The entrance to the tiny home is design so that if you entertain guests, the primary interior area they walk into is the largest space in the house.

This is my idea for the tiny house. I am planningon having a two story house, with the kitchen area being combined with the living room area and nook area on the first floor. The full bath is also located under the stairs on the first floor, and the bedroom is located on the second floor and also includes a "lounge" area.

If I use the loft upstairs for my bed I only need a small amount of space for my main floor needs.

Morning Everyone,
Next assignment in the Tiny House Blog: each student needs to make five comments concerning the posted sketches by Wednesday, April 25.
What I want you to do is look at the sketches posted by the other students, study them and see if you can not make suggestions to improve the design of the student's tiny house. If you can reference sources for your suggestions, all the better. Just remember, we are trying to come up with 10 great designs for tiny houses from the 10 students in the class.
Feel free to ask questions to the students about their tiny houses if something is not clear in the tiny house sketch. Remember, we are here to improve each students tiny house effort and learn as we go along.
And of course, ask me any questions you might have concerning any aspect of the assignment.

Evening Everyone,
As we come to the end of spring break, just a few reminders:
Don't forget to post the required number of times. Sitting at home, I think you are suppose to post two new sites of information about tiny houses and you are required to make two comments concerning posts from others. I will double check the numbers when I get to school Monday morning and let you know if I made a mistake in the numbers.
Wednesday you need to post a simple sketch of your tiny house. If you need to scan your sketch, ROAR Block is the perfect time to do so. Remember, no class time is suppose to be used for this project.
See you Monday.

FIRST POST, SPRING 2012
This is the first post of the blog for the Spring, 2012 semester. Wanted to use this as a way to separate last years blog entries from this year.
